| Bio: | Lucius Malfoy does not just believe in the power of money and influence; he knows it and lives it. If there was any doubt to it’s effect, they would have been put to rest after the first time he denounced the Dark Lord’s service. In public, he is arrogant and proud, and justifiably so. After all, he knows full well that his work in politics, from bribery to philanthropy, has ensured that his family never suffers the degradations of a Muggle-loving wizard world, nor the hardships of poverty. His wife and son have only known the best of everything, and that even extended to his sister and brothers in law. Even after the second, permanent fall of the Dark Lord, his connections have saved them all from outright persecution. But it wasn’t always so secure in his mind. Well before the Dark Lord was defeated by Potter, Lucius’ arrogance had been put to the test, and evolved into iron determination. Once imprisoned inside Azkaban for his dedication to his master, he expected that his family would be protected by the wizard he’d sworn fealty to. Instead, Voldemort endangered his son for sport, humiliated his wife, and turned their home into a circus. It was the beginning of the end for Lucius’ allegiance, and his trademark arrogance was now just a front. When among those he trusts, the demeanor is gone, replaced by a more contemplative and careful personality. He knew better than to outright pull his support from Voldemort, but he and his wife slowly and surely turned their affection to themselves and their son. Once the Dark Lord was defeated, he and Narcissa closed their family off and set about rebuilding a better future alone. His hatred for Harry Potter was personal and yet not; he always assumed that Draco’s future would be secured in the Dark Lord’s grace, and anything Harry did as a guttersnipe rebel would have little lasting impact. He disliked Harry intensely mainly for the times that Harry seemingly singled out Draco for ridicule, in Lucius’s opinion. Beyond that, Draco’s excellent schoolwork meant Lucius thought little about the two boys competing. Still, Harry’s singular lack of respect for adults and great wizards alike still rankles Lucius, even as he concedes a small gratitude that Harry succeeded. Before now, Harry defeating the Dark Lord would have been unmitigated disaster; but in the aftermath, Lucius regained his precious son. Lucius is only fully himself among his wife and son, and more so still with Narcissa. He yet strives to be a role model to his son, knowing that even if people detest him for his superciliousness, they defer to confidence and power. It is a weapon and defense he is dedicated to giving to his son. Lucius has let no stone go unturned in amassing his former support, although it has been much harder this time. He seeks endlessly to protect his family, and that means sometimes lying and bribing those within his social circles to get it. Still, this time he has not been so careless with his money, recognizing that it won’t get him as far in a world that no longer fears Voldemort’s influence. He refuses to speak with any of the other former Death Eaters. He has started to turn his investments elsewhere besides soley the Ministry, knowing full well that Shacklebolt will block him there at any opportunity. Still, he refuses to hide, feeling that will only make him look guilty. Underneath his public persona, Lucius knows a fear unlike any before. After all, the people have a hero that they believe in and worship wholeheartedly. Whereas before a scandalous article could undercut Potter’s influence, it can’t be done so easily now. And one accusation from the Boy Who Lived could see all of Lucius’ hard work destroyed. | |||||||||
